WHAT IS TOXIN?

Our Toxin treatment is formed of Botulinum Toxin which is produced by a type of bacteria, this toxin, in small doses can be used to prevent muscles from moving, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles on the skin.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Nerve cells send signals to the muscles, Toxin injections block these signals and therefore block the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, this then leaves the affected muscle unable to contract. It is injected into the target section of muscles, rendering the muscles in a hibernation state. Causing these muscles to stop moving (typically for 3-4 months), this then acts as a prevention for the creation of further wrinkles and, as the muscles relax, so does the skin on top, further reducing the appearance of fine lines.

HOW LONG DOES TOXIN LAST?

Toxin typically takes effect within 3-5 days with full and final results appearing after 7-10 days. The effect typically lasts 3 - 4 months however as you have more injections, over time, the muscles will become smaller through lack of use. This will mean that you may need fewer treatments to get the same effect.

WHERE CAN TOXIN BE USED?

We offer Toxin injections for the following areas:

• Lip Flip - subtly define your upper lip which creates the illusion that your lips are plumper. It can also help lips to cover gums more.

• Gummy Smile Reduction - limits the movement of the upper lip meaning that, when smiling, your gums remain covered.

• Bunny Line Reduction - reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that appear around the edge of your nose.

• Chin Smoothing - precisely what it says, smooth the skin on your chin

• Jaw Slimming and Tightening - improve the overall shape of your face and reduce the appearance of jowls.

• Nefertiti Neck Lift - improve the appearance of neck wrinkles and tighten the area for a more youthful appearance.

At your treatment appointment, we will have a 15 minute pre-treatment discussion where we will ask you for the details of your medical history and the medication that you are taking, we will also discuss any treatments that you have had previously and what you would like to achieve with your treatment. Based on your answers, we will discuss if the treatment is best for you and will run through any concerns you may have.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COME IN?

Topical numbing cream will be applied to the target area and we will administer the Toxin injections to the problem areas using a very fine needle and you may be asked to move your face to find the best place to inject.

​

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

We suggest that you avoid any special occasions within a 14-day period of the procedure, this gives time for any residual bruising or swelling to subside. 

​

To prevent additional bruising and bleeding around the injection site, we recommend avoiding taking aspirin and any anti-inflammatory medications, please check with your doctor if you take blood thinners before stopping any medication. 

​

Arnica supplements can be taken pre-emptively and following the procedure to reduce discomfort and bruising. 

​

Please avoid working out or going to the gym ahead of the appointment to avoid having flushed skin which can increase bruising potential due to the blood being at the surface of the skin.

​

Please also arrive without makeup or facial products on your skin and avoid any alcohol for at least 48 hours prior to the appointment to avoid more bruising and swelling. 

​

Please consult your doctor if you have cold sores or herpes breakouts in the intended treatment area to prevent the risk of creating a further breakout. 

​

If you have a picture of your desired outcome, please bring it with you, this will help us understand exactly what you are aiming to achieve. 

​

Please try to eat something before your appointment, this will prevent you from feeling light-headed or faint during the treatment. 

​

DO I NEED ANY DOWNTIME?

After your treatment, you should be able to return to your normal ‘light’ activities, including driving and getting back to work.

​

We do recommend that you avoid wearing make-up for 24 hours if your face is treated and that you take a day off from strenuous physical exercise, such as visiting the gym or playing your favourite sport. Also, avoid showering or washing the area for 8 hours following the procedure, and please avoid saunas or a steamy bath, as well as intense sun or UV light, for 5 days.

 

The consumption of alcohol and caffeine 24 hours before or following the treatment is not recommended (for optimal results, abstain from alcohol for 7 days after the treatment).

Paracetamol can be used for pain however we recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory medications, you can also use ice to cool the area intermittently for 5 minutes following the procedure. 

​

Avoid touching, applying pressure to, or massaging the area of treatment for at least 3 days following the treatment, this includes wearing any glasses or hats that may rest on the area. 

​

Please don't sleep flat on your face for 3-4 days after treatment. You can use an extra pillow when sleeping to elevate the area to prevent swelling. 

​

ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO BE AWARE OF?

You may experience redness, pain, swelling, or bruising around the injection site following your treatment, this will fade over time.

You may also have a headache or flu-like symptoms for the first 24 hours, you may also feel like you can't move the injected area initially, resulting in a frozen look. 

​

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Following one treatment, the results should last about 3 - 4 months. So, to maintain your desired aesthetic, we recommend touch-up injections two to six times a year. 

​

WHO CAN'T HAVE TOXIN?

You cannot have this treatment whilst pregnant or breastfeeding, if the skin is infected, or if you are unwell in anyway. ​
