DERMAPLANING

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is when we shave away the uppermost layers of your skin, this reveals the undamaged skin underneath. This helps reduce the appearance of acne scars, make skin look younger and can also be used for hair removal. Whilst dermaplaning aids in improving the appearance of the skin, it doesn't stop the aging process and hair removal is only temporary.

Dermaplaning not only improves the appearance of your natural skin but provides a beautifully smooth base for makeup, meaning that you look refreshed whether you are natural faced or full glam.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Using a sharp knife (scalpel) or razor, we will remove the outermost layer of skin through thorough exfoliation. You can do a limited amount of dermaplaning at home, where this only really removes peach fuzz, however to reveal the undamaged skin underneath, you are best visiting Secret Society Aesthetics to get a thorough exfoliation.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS OF DERMAPLANING LAST?

Whilst the results of dermaplaning are instant, they are temporary. Typically, this treatment will remove approximately 3 weeks of dead skin cells, meaning that after between 3 - 4 weeks, your results will fade.

WHAT CAN A DERMAPLANING BE USED FOR?

Dermaplaning can be used for:

  • Improve dull or dry skin through removal of dead skin cells

  • Removal of peach fuzz

  • Improve appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduce appearance of acne scars

  • Reduce signs of aging

  • Deep facial exfoliation

  • Smoothing skin for better makeup application

IS DERMAPLANING SAFE?

Whilst Dermaplaning is safe, it does carry the risks of infection, breakouts, scarring and skin discolouration.

WHY HAVE A CONSULTATION?

We offer a consultation session which is £20. This session is perfect if you are unsure about what service to book and would like some guidance. At this session, we will discuss your requirements and understand what services are best to achieve your goals. Book a consultation now

At your treatment appointment, we will have a 15 minute pre-treatment discussion where we will ask you for the details of your medical history and the medication that you are taking, we will also discuss any treatments that you have had previously and what you would like to achieve with your treatment. Based on your answers, we will discuss if the treatment is best for you and will run through any concerns you may have.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COME IN?

Your skin will be cleansed and then using a sharp knife (scalpel), we will remove hair and dead skin cells. You may feel slight stinging or scratching during this process however this is only temporary.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

We suggest that you avoid any special occasions within an 2-day period of the procedure, this gives time for any residual redness to subside.

Make sure that you have eaten something and had lots of fluids prior to your dermaplaning session. This will keep your skin hydrated and can aid in preventing post-procedure swelling.

Inspect the target skin for any wounds prior to your appointment, as we will be using a blade on the area, we cannot perform dermaplaning on damaged skin.

Avoid exfoliation of target area 5 days prior to the appointment, this will help avoid adverse side effects by allowing the skin to heal and prevent over exfoliation.

Avoid using products containing retinol which can cause skin to become irritated, also consider adding an antibacterial skin care product to your routine prior, this will help kill of any bacteria that could infect or irritate any open wounds.

Do not shave the area prior to the appointment, this can leave shaving rash or red bumps under the skin which can be detrimental to the treatment.

Please avoid scheduling any other aesthetic treatments for up to 2 weeks following your dermaplaning treatment, this will allow for the skin to recover and provide the best results.

Avoid sun exposure prior to the appointment, as sun-burnt skin can be irritated and will not react well to the deep exfoliation.

DO I NEED ANY DOWNTIME?

Dermaplaning is a painless treatment and therefor requires very little downtime.

As we are removing the outermost layer of skin, it is important to avoid direct sun exposure for 3 days following the procedure and keep the area protected with suncream.

Following the treatment, your skin will typically be red, swollen and potentially tender which should subside fairly quickly.

Leave your skin free of lotions and makeup for approximately 24 hours to allow for your skin to recover.

ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO BE AWARE OF?

Dermaplaning is a safe procedure with minimal side effects however if you have sensitive skin or are suffering from breakout, we recommend avoiding this procedure as it can irritate existing issues.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Results typically last between 3 - 4 weeks, and due to the nature of the exfoliation, we recommend leaving 1 month between treatments.

WHO CAN'T HAVE DERMAPLANING?

If you have pre-existing skin concerns such as acne, cold sores, eczema, moles in the area, psoriasis, burns or rashes then we would not recommend dermaplaning for you.
